home tour: living room update

it's been awhile since there's been a home tour post around here. even though there are some rooms i haven't even documented (the kitchen! master bedroom!), i thought i'd share some updates that have happened in our living room since the last time i wrote about it.

one of the biggest changes you can see is the new coffee table. we switched out that clunky chest, which was too big/square for the space (and fits perfectly up in our bedroom) for a mid-century table that i found at a local antique market. it has a (heavy) marble slab top...and i totally love it. because we paid for it in cash, and were able to call the seller to ask if they'd go any lower on the price, we got it for a steal. the little bench in front of the fireplace was a homegoods find.

now:

i switched up the pillows for these from crate & barrel. white can be tricky...and i imagine even more so with all kinds of baby body fluids we'll encounter in the next few months. :)

i ordered these baskets to help corral some magazines (and toys at some point?), while keeping things streamlined and organized.

finally, we added some bamboo window shades for a little more privacy and a bit of a finished look on the front windows. i like how the bamboo complements & adds to the warmth of the rest of the wood in the room.

{a painting done by andy's grandpa. i love to display it during the winter months.}

so there you have it! living room update! next items to switch out on the list: end tables and art above the couch. i'm thinking about doing a large-scale print--and hopefully in the next few weeks--so i'll share if that ends up working out. i literally hung the art that's there now as we were moving in, just to keep the frames off the floor. time to switch it up!

of course, all of these changes take time as the decorating budget allows (hence an update over a year later), but i don't mind the slow process of adding things here & there. makes it all worthwhile.

i'm hoping that maternity leave will allow me at least a little time (foolish thinking?) to devote to a few more house decorating projects that i've been itching to take on. i'd really love to dig a little deeper into my huge interest in design and curating spaces that make us live better. with that in mind, i would love to help YOU with any design/redesign/decorating projects you may want to tackle. whether it's something like a budget redesign or--perhaps like a girlfriend who recently reached out to me--you just need ideas for a certain space, i would LOVE to help you. there's little i enjoy more than flexing my creative muscles to use what's already there, scour antique markets for unique pieces, or provide some product sourcing for new items to create a space that makes living better...more beautiful...more calming & authentic. contact me if this is something you're interested in! (we can easily do long-distance consulting as well!)

to come: sunroom updates!...once i gather a couple more wish-list items. you can already see that we lightened things up in there...
