door county.

i mentioned that in early december andy & i escaped north for a little getaway weekend. to unplug for a couple of days and totally unwind. it was our christmas present to each other, a little pre-baby treat, and, more than anything, a way to celebrate the end of andy's studying and test-taking. that man studied for 9 months of 2013...many long hours in the evenings and on the weekends after 40+ hour work weeks. i wanted him to be able to do nothing.

...and that's just what we did! it was amazing. i want to do it again. i missed it before we even left. also, the fact that it will never just be the two of us...or at least it will never be quite as easy to skip away (even for just a 2.5 hour drive) made it that much harder to say goodbye to our peaceful weekend cottage in the woods.

we arrived friday night after a somewhat slow drive along snowy, poorly lit country roads. on saturday we watched the snow fall lightly all day and, before long, we were entirely snowed in...which was glorious. no reason to go out anyway! andy had to practically dig out the car so we could pick up sunday morning breakfast goods at the local piggly wiggly before heading to the local bar/restaurant for dinner.

this was our view from bed. waking up to this was bliss.

{the door next to the bed that led to a little porch}

oh, yes, i'll just curl up in the reading nook and kill an hour or two.

...or maybe i'll sit at the little desk here and journal and sip coffee and keep reading.

we lingered over breakfasts & lunches in the little dining nook and perused magazines.

we kept warm with a little gas stove and made ourselves comfy on the couch for long stretches of time...

necessary footwear for the weekend.

aaand the obligatory bump picture {although it's hard to see under all the layers!} to properly document this time before baby.

finally, some shots of the beautiful door country landscape from our little tour of the small towns around the bay on sunday morning. most everything was closed up, quiet, and still in the snow.

the ONLY downside was leftover dog hair/dander in the cottage that had me itchy & sneezing up a storm (pregnancy has seemed to amplify my allergies). otherwise, i hope we can get back there again! if you're ever in the market for a little door county getaway, let me know & i'll give you the details on this gem. it was worth every little saved-up penny for this weekend away and then some.
