today i was listening to an old cd mix {circa fall 2007},
as i was driving down some kentucky country roads
as i was driving down some kentucky country roads
(talk about breathtaking fall foliage).
this song came on & i was taken back
to the days of that fall,
when the hubby & i realized fully that we really did
want to "belong to each other" for forever.
it's when we first started talking about marriage and,
after recommitting ourselves to each other & to making our relationship work long distance,
when we fully knew we were in it for the long haul.
i remember our faces pressed close together one time,
when he whispered,
"will you marry me some day?"
...and i honestly remember the way my breath caught in my throat in that moment.
these lyrics stuck out to me the most:
first time i saw your face
i must admit i was feeling just a little bit out of place
so young and stupid didn't have no plans
i was just walking in the sand
walking with my shoes in my hands
i was young and stupid
didn't have no plans, baby
i must admit i was feeling just a little bit out of place
so young and stupid didn't have no plans
i was just walking in the sand
walking with my shoes in my hands
i was young and stupid
didn't have no plans, baby
and you're so pretty with your hair all a mess
your eyes so bright and full of happiness
and i could not find the words to tell you how you were making me feel inside
i just stood there before you and smiled
well i wanna know you
i wanna kiss you
i wanna love you
i wanna show you there will be no one else above you
and you're my, my baby
well you're my sweet, my sweet, my sweet little baby
you should belong to me
in these crazy months of getting married, getting out of the army,
searching for jobs, starting jobs, hunting for a place to live,
packing & moving, AND settling into a new city...
packing & moving, AND settling into a new city...
and with the transition and attendant emotions & stress that all this can cause...
it's good to remember where we started and how far we've come,
those days of bright eyes & happiness.
and i'm just so thankful that there's still plenty of that to go around.
