hold on, darling.

before we left milwaukee, as we were packing up our life there, i listened to vance joy's 'mess is mine' on repeat. when i hear it now, i'm immediately taken back to the kitchen in our old house. it felt so fitting for the change & adventure we were embarking on...and where we are, as a couple, in this life together. the thought of uprooting and moving to california both thrilled & scared me, but, as it was a wonderful opportunity for andy, i knew i had to - i wanted to - take the plunge. when we said those vows, we committed to for better & for worse...we committed to sharing it all, trusting one another, and doing it together...

"hold on, darling
this body is yours.
this body is yours and mine
well hold on, my darling
this mess was yours.
now your mess is mine."

(see what i mean? pretty perfect.)

anyway.

i know vance joy has a pretty good following, but i don't think this song is uber-popular? (maybe i'm wrong here?)

when will and i landed in southern california (after a pretty horrible day of traveling), this song came on inside the plane. this song! this still-slightly-obscure song! on an airplane of all places!...the song i had been listening to - volume turned up high - for the several weeks leading up to that big cross-country trek.

it seemed too coincidental. a god thing. a stars-aligned thing. a warm-welcome-from-the-universe thing. a good omen. it made me smile and shake my head in disbelief.

we had made it to our new home.

your mess is mine.
