home tour: backyard

two of the house projects that fall under the "much delayed, but at least they're finally done" are the trimming of our backyard trees and a new side fence. i think our planned completion timeline was sometime in late winter/early spring (ha!), but here we are settled snugly in august and it still feels damn good to cross it off the list. i only wish it hadn't cost $1K, but such is the bittersweet burden of home ownership. also, if we had it our way, the fence would completely block out the neighbor's house on that side, but city of milwaukee fence requirements foiled our plans. at least it's a few feet higher...

in this post i showed some of the ways we spruced up the back patio last year; next on the outdoor list (for next summer) is to get some landscaping done along that side fence (maybe some large privacy shrubs?!) and around the back patio area - i've been longingly calling this "phase 2." everything took a beating in that space with the tree-trimming equipment and fence construction...all the more reason to eventually spruce it up! we need more patio seating, too, so hopefully next summer will bring lots of good outdoor decorating.
