small.

this little guy who now lives with us has obviously changed our lives in a million ways, some big and some small. and it's the way our life has shifted in those small ways that have stood out to me most. it's the little pockets now, the way our days are broken up into tiny 2-4 hour increments, that makes this time so different than the pre-baby lives we led. having a whole saturday, stretching out before us?...what did we do with all that time? i remember my mom saying that, once you have kids, you look back on your former life and wonder what in the world you did with all that precious time. it's so true (as most things that moms say tend to be).

anyway, for now...we live with a tiny boy and it's the little stretches of time that we enjoy, the small moments that now feel so luxurious: stealing away for a quick, happy hour beer while baby sleeps; an equally quick coffee date; a long walk around the block for a breath of fresh air during the last few minutes of nap time; hugs between andy & i, enjoyed in places like the staircase (him going up, me going down) and the kitchen (as we clean up dishes & baby bottles); hot, relaxing showers; late night bowls of cereal while catching up on blogs; reading a few pages before bed.

our world has opened up in a miraculous, massive way...yet has also allowed for small spaces of calm & content that are enjoyed in a way they never were before.

...and nothing beats the newest small moment of joy in our lives: a baby smile.
