today we begin our long road trip to nebraska, with a pit-stop in the fine town of rockford, illinois.
i have made this drive an insane number of times over the years, especially while in college, but, for some reason, now it seems much more daunting. i think i'm just ready to be home & share this special time (and family traditions) with andy, the newest addition to the family.
the last few months have held a lot of transition, high highs, and low lows....and i'm ready to forget it all for a few days and soak up the goodness of this time. let it seep into our bones a bit and give us some fresh energy & perspective...for the new year and what's ahead. i love thinking of my husband clad in pajamas with the rest of us, nestled in our living room with my pup, presents, mugs of coffee, and a sparkling tree. we'll all be in our designated-years-ago present opening positions, of course.
i can't wait to hold his hand at midnight mass.
i can't wait to peek into our stockings together, share a baileys on the rocks, and sit next to each other {still clad in pajamas} as we enjoy my mom's delicious christmas meal.
it's our first christmas together and, remembering where he was last year {and how it broke my heart to not share the day with him}, it makes it all the more cherished.
i love knowing we'll share these moments for years to come, among our families...and, one day, with our own little ones clad in pajamas.
the small things...truly, yo, it's where it's at.
off we go!
wishing you smooth, happy holiday travels.
