hold onto your seats, folks.

last night i shattered my favorite glass water bottle on cement. that cement was outside of the bluebird cafe, though, so i didn't even care. there's nothing like this little, nondescript cafe/venue in the middle of a strip mall in nashville. you would barely notice it in your excitement of visiting the anthropologie across the street (but see how it's perfectly located?). who are some of the artists & songwriters who have performed in the bluebird style of in-the-round, with some being discovered there? well, let's see: garth brooks, faith hill, dixie chicks, trisha yearwood, david wilcox, edwin mccain, patty griffin, mary chapin carpenter, shawn colvin, melissa etheridge...the list goes on and on.

my friend/coworker maggie and i settled into the "church pews" they have for overflow and nibbled on appetizers as a girl from a small town in nebraska belted out songs she had written. maggie leaned over to me more than once to whisper "this is amazing." maggie doesn't even really like country music...but the bluebird makes you believe country music is the only real kind there is.

we drove home with bags of trader joe's goodies and pieces of broken glass rattling in the trunk, still reveling in the music high. as much as this city has to offer outside of country music, this place is what you think of when you think of nashville. the bluebird is nashville.
